At the age of 21, Wayne retained his title of Junior Mr. South Australia once again in 1996, and then moved up to the Novice class in 1997 and finished in second place.
2006 saw Mattei join a professional wrestling promotion in South Australia, and thus started training to become a Professional Wrestler. Standing 6 foot 6 inches tall and now weighing in at 140kg, Mattei is arguably the biggest and meanest Australian Professional Wrestler earning the moniker; “The Maniac”.
Mattei continued wrestling with this company for approximately a year and took a brief hiatus from pro wrestling in order to film in his first Hollywood Movie called “Broken Hill – The Movie”, followed by a TV series for MTV known as “Pimp My Kettle”, a spin off of “Pimp My Ride”. Recently, Mattei has filmed his second Hollywood Movie with Clive Owens, “The Boys are Back in Town”.
Outside of the wrestling ring or movie set, Mattei is a successful business entrepreneur and company director of South Australia’s premier security and protection firm, Sundown Protection Services Pty Ltd. Through his company, Mattei is the body guard for several WWE Superstars during their tours of Australia and has been able to form great connections with this opportunity.
In 2008, Mattei had the great opportunity of signing with Nightmare Wrestling, allowing him to travel and wrestle in numerous parts of Australia. April 2009 saw “The Maniac” capture the prestigious Southern Cross Championship in his home city of Adelaide. Mattei hopes to continue his professional wrestling success well beyond 2009.
